8 glasses a day keeps the doctor away? Not exactly. But the benefits of drinking water are indisputable. After all, water makes up 70% of our bodies!
Your body needs water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to all your organs. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs.
So why is it so important?
- Drinking water can reduce joint and back pain by 80%!
- As a general rule, it is healthy to consume 1 glass for every 20 minutes of exercise.
- Water consumption suppresses hunger.
- When your body is thirsty, it holds on to the water in your body which is where “water weight” comes from. When you’re hydrated properly, that excess storage is expelled! Bye-bye bloating!
- Water cleans your system of harmful wastes and toxins
- Drinking water improves skin moisture
- Pure water is good water. Consider attaching a water purifier to your faucet.

Drinking water as opposed to something more flavorful like soda or artificially-sweetened water/teas can be pretty challenging. Here are some tips to make sure you can get all the water you need!
- Keep a watter bottle near you at all times—you’ll reach for it instinctively. (I’m doing it right now!)
- Use flavor packets: they have no caloric influence.
